90% melt value
Who here encourages "throwing back" some 90% Kennedy half dollars into the mix?
The dealer would sell at very fair price. I found this melt value calculator: http://www.coinflation.com/coins/sil...alculator.html and this one: http://www.silverrecyclers.com/Calcu...alculator.aspx I did a search for a 90% discussion thread, but no results...? Just want to read the opinions here at GIM on these. cheers amigos! |
Re: 90% melt value
both sites use the BU weight of 90% coinage of 723oz per thousand face
most dealers use the circulated weight of 712-715oz per thousand face so those calculators will give you higher value # than dealers due to the wear on circulated coins I strongly recommend 90% ..its not fancy but it follows silver closely and buys and sells easy a easy way to calculate the silver value in 90% circulated coinage is as follows...(spot price) x .712 = (face value multiplyer) example 18$spot x .712 = 12.82 ....so 12.82 x $1000face value coinage = $12,820 silver value at spot the .712 number changes to .723 if the coins are Uncirculated 90% does trade a premiums or discounts to spot depending on market |
Re: 90% melt value
I agree totally with TTAZZMAN.
Just remember, only the 1964 Kennedy is 90% Silver. 1965-1968 are 40% Silver. All else are Clad unless they came out of Silver Mint Set. In that case they would have the San Francisco Mint Mark "S". They are great coins and most do way 723 troy ounce of Silver per $1000 face. I had purchased a half of a bag (500 face). When I opened the bag, I saw only AU and BU '64 Kennedy's. Quite a few were mirrored and proof like (these were put into airtites to keep them righteous). Over all they all looked like they were minted the day before I got them. Most of the 1964 Kennedy's that did make it into circulation were pulled out by collectors, bankers, etc. You won't regret getting them, no matter what shape they're in, after all there are .3617 troy ounces of silver in each coin. They'll make great fractional coins someday. Enjoy. Maranatha, |

Re: 90% melt value
cant get 90% kennedy's for less than 6 bucks anymore, not for several months; but on the sell they fetch more than five now so that is nice if you've got em.
forget about "investing" in the 40% ones from 65-69, dealers dont want them for the most part or cut their offer waaaaaaaaay down under melt. you are selling junk, you are NOT going to recognize melt unless the coin has some additional numi value like walkers often do or nice older mercs. for crappy wash quarters, or common date franklins, or roosies, forget it, if they're not key dates then you may fetch between 75-95% of melt. if you are selling more you can usually get more for them. the smaller the quantity the less willing the dealer is to pay close to melt. |
